Is the Cover Your Case app a Law Firm?

Cover Your Case is not a law firm and Cover Your Case, Inc. does not provide any legal services to the requesting attorney. Cover Your Case is an application which links attorneys with other attorneys to cover their routine cases. It’s the fastest, easiest, and most efficient way for attorneys to get their cases covered. The Cover Your Case app has everything a requesting attorney needs to connect to a pool of (LICENSED, QUALIFITED AND AVAILABLE) attorneys available and looking for cases to cover. The Cover Your Case app gives the attorneys the ability to instantly communicate with each other and transfer documents so that the case can be seamlessly and effortlessly covered.

Does Cover Your Case provide malpractice insurance?

Cover Your Case does not provide legal services. Therefore, Cover Your Case does not provide malpractice insurance. However, each covering attorney is required to maintain malpractice insurance prior to accepting any case to cover. You are advised to review your own malpractice policy to determine whether an outside attorney covering cases for you is covered under your policy. Still, the covering attorney has the primary responsibility to have coverage. Also, because the Cover Your Case webapp is intended only for routine, uncontested matters, it is unlikely to have an adverse ruling on a matter that cannot be resolved easily.

What does it cost to use the app to find coverage?

The app is free to download and free to use. The only time you are charged is when you make a request for court coverage. There are two straight-forward costs for coverage.
• Standard coverage request – Requests for coverage made at least 24 hours in advance of the court hearing are charged $120.00.

• Expedited coverage request– Request for court coverage made less than 24 hours in advance of the court hearing are charged $165.00.

What if I unable to find coverage using the app?

In the unlikely event that no attorneys accept your request for coverage, you will not be charged. Any fees paid when the request was made will be fully refunded.

What if I need to cancel coverage after an attorney has agreed to cover the case?

If you no longer need coverage for a case already accepted by a covering attorney, you may get a partial or full refund of any fees you paid when making the request. It is important to cancel the request as soon as you know you don’t need the case covered. If you cancel the request at least 24 hours prior to the hearing, you will receive a full refund. If the cancellation was less than 24 hours before the scheduled hearing, you will receive a $50 refund.

What if I need to cancel coverage BEFORE an attorney has agreed to cover the case?

If you no longer need coverage for a case which has not already been accepted by a covering attorney, you will be charger a $40 cancellation fee and receive a refund of the balance paid.

What types of cases can I find coverage for using the Cover Your Case app?

Routine, Uncontested, Agreed matters.
Cover Your Case is designed for finding court coverage for routine, uncontested or agreed upon matters. It is meant for cases where you don’t want to waste the time or money going to court when you can be other places working on matters which require your attention or skill. Routine matters such as status dates, case management conferences, initial presentment of motions or appearing in response to initial presentment of motions, appearing for the entry of a briefing schedule or presenting agreed orders are the main concentration of Cover Your Case. The app is geared towards matters which require little knowledge of the facts or the parties and therefore require very little preparation for court.

What courts and types of cases can find coverage using the app?

We have a large network of available attorneys in most areas of practice, in federal, state and local courts including:

Can I use Cover Your Case if I only want to cover cases?

YES. Cover Your Case may be used by attorneys seeking coverage of their cases or by attorneys looking to cover cases and earn income. Cover Your Case can even be used by attorneys looking for coverage for some cases AND looking to cover other cases.

There are separate registration requirements for requesting attorneys and covering attorneys. Therefore, to do both, an attorney must register for each side of the platform. Once registered to request and to recover cases, the attorney can seamlessly switch from one to other.

How much does a covering attorney get paid for covering cases?

Covering attorneys will be paid $70 for covering a case. Additional cases covered the same day and courthouse will be compensated at $50 each.

How can I keep client confidentiality when using Cover Your Case?

When using the Cover Your Case app attorneys may upload documents which are then conveyed to attorneys that are not employed by the requesting attorney’s law firm. However, the typical documents uploaded to the app are pleadings, orders or proposed orders. These are documents which are already part of the public record and therefore are not part of the attorney-client confidentiality. Additionally, many attorneys have outside attorneys appear for routine matters. We suggest to avoid any potential issues that requesting attorneys include a disclosure in their client engagement agreements which states an outside attorney may appear for them from time to time.
